Our Smart Phone network allows you to send and receive data in a number of international destinations, so you can take your device further. And we’ve put together some useful tips and advice on this roaming video.
It includes simple instructions for things like:
Standard mobile international roaming data charges will apply when watching this video while international roaming.
Android Mobile Phone users: download our XT Telecom Roaming application
We highly recommend you download our free XT Telecom Roaming application for Android 2.2 or higher before you leave New Zealand. The application is available at no charge from the Android Market but please note downloading the application uses data (3.2MB), so standard data charges will apply domestically or for roaming when you download this application.
The XT Telecom Roaming application will tell you the prices for all of the places you can roam, and provide some handy tips.
And best part is all the information you’ll need is on your phone, so you won’t need to use up data to access it when you’re overseas.
Simply go to the Android Market on your mobile phone before you leave New Zealand and type in XT Telecom Roaming to search and install.
Note: The information in the application is relevant to the date you download it or the date of latest update so please make sure you check for updates before leaving the country. See our global roaming terms and conditions for more information.
These devices cannot receive SMS alerts from us, so it's a good idea to visit http://m.telecom.co.nz/roamingsmartcaps to check if your Data Smart Cap is set to the right level for you before going overseas. At this link you can set up your Data Smart Cap, find out the mobile number on your SIM and get another Telecom mobile device to receive the alerts before going overseas.
To check your voicemail while roaming you'll need your voicemail PIN number. To check or change your PIN number:
Though not all destinations have data roaming you’ll still be able to call and text from your mobile phone so make sure you pack your charger and plug adaptors. If you want to double check your device can roam, feel free to email your mobile number to roaming@telecom.co.nz and we'll run a series of checks to confirm it.
iPad or tablet users should also visit http://m.telecom.co.nz/roamingsmartcaps or call our roaming helpdesk to ensure that your Data Smart Cap is set an appropriate amount before you leave New Zealand.
Put your i-phone, i-pad or Nokia Windows Mobile on ‘Manual’ for freedom to select a network:
iPhone
Select Settings > Select Phone > Select SIM Application > Select Roaming Menu > Select Manual > Select Sponsor (local network) or TNZ > Select Accept
iPad
Select Settings > Select Mobile Data > Select SIM Application > Select Roaming Menu > Select Manual > Select Sponsor (local network) or TNZ > Select Accept
Nokia with Windows Mobile:
Select: Settings > SIM Application > Show Applications > Roaming Menu > Manual > Sponsor (Local networks) or TNZ
If you return to New Zealand and cannot get service on XT, you will need to use the SIM applications menu and select TNZ.

With Telecom XT roaming, you can make calls, send texts and use data on certain flights, or on board certain ships, (XT on board roaming is not available on Prepaid).

OVERRIDE DEFAULT BLOCK CONTENT WITH HIDDEN P (not sure why template isn't overriding properly - fix later!)
If you lose your device – or it gets stolen - while you're overseas, contact the International Roaming Helpdesk on +64 3 371 0866 straight away to block your SIM.
If you don't do this immediately, you will be responsible for all calls made or data used on the device until it’s blocked.
Also if you have stored any passwords or other important information on your device you should immediately take action to change these.
Because you'll be roaming on different networks, we can't guarantee the quality and availability of the network or coverage while you’re overseas.
If you have Android 2.2 or higher, visit the Google play and type in XT Telecom to install our free roaming app.
This July we'll be closing our CDMA mobile network. We can help you make the move to XT.
